While at Penn-Harris-Madison School corporation I developed a staff blogging platform that allowed any staff member to instantly create an easily customizable blog or website. For those interested I have created another similar version of this platform to be used in other companies.
This platform is built on the WordPress CMS engine and uses the built in Multi-site feature. Where this platform I developed differs is that it syncs to your Windows Active Directory / LDAP user database and automatically creates a new blog for the person upon their first login.
Check out the platform by visiting: blogs.phmschools.org
A list of features that are part of this platform; and NOT in a standard WordPress Multi-site network, include:
- Account Sync (with Active Directory / LDAP)
- Audio / video interactive guided walkthroughs
- Activity monitor
- Login Monitor
- Custom Sub-domains
- Automatic menu creation
- Automatic display of documents
- Images resized and optimized on upload (saves space and speeds up website load time)
- Mobile-friendly responsive image galleries
- Google Drive integration
- Google Analytics integration (in primary site only)
- Anti-spam via Akismet (enabled network wide)
- Users forced to verify account information (before website creation is allowed)
- Account lockouts after 10 bad attempts
- Built-in file-compression
- Comments are disabled by default
- Network wide options
- Customized admin menu and dashboard (removed unnecessary options)
- “Take Me Home” button to help users not get lost while viewing other sites in the network
